Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) *********************************************** ATCsimulator® will only run in 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, large or small font mode. ********************************************************************************* The setup program fails to correctly remove files after re-booting your system, which causes the second installation attempt to fail. Use: START > FIND FILES or FOLDERS Under the 'Named' textbox, enter 'ATCSIMULATOR.CAB'. Be sure that 'Include subfolders' is checked. Then click on the 'Find Now' command button. Once the file appears in the list, you can stop the search process and then delete the file (ATCSIMULATOR.CAB). Restart your computer and then try the installation again. ****************************************** If you have other SR software on your machine such as Game Commander, or IBM Via Voice, etc., activating Microsoft's SR component with ATCsimulator® may disable all other audio output. There is also the possibility that your sound card is not capable of input and output at the same time. But we have heard of success using Game Commander instead of the SAPI. ****************************************************************** First, be sure you do not have any applications running that have control of your sound card. START > SETTINGS > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs Remove the "Lernout & Hauspie TruVoice American English TTS Engine" and then reinstall it from the CD (TV_ENUA.EXE). ***************** For more information on how to improve Microsoft's Speech Recognition (SR) with ATCsimulator®, download the following file: http://www.atcsimulator.com/support/sr.doc or the plain text version: http://www.atcsimulator.com/support/sr.txt Here is a script file that can be used with the Lexicon editor explained in that document. http://www.atcsimulator.com/support/script.txt ******************************************************************************** On the CD is a folder named, "\NOFONT". To avoid the font errors, run either "CDNOFONT.EXE" or "HDNOFONT.EXE" from that folder. This applies to version 1.0.446 or 1.0.447 ******************************************************* This is an indication that you changed the destination for the update to 1.0.446 from "C:\" to something else. You need to locate the file "DATADRIV.DAT" in the ATC Simulator folder and edit it using NOTEPAD or any other text editor. Once you open the file, there will be a one line entry that will read: C: If you changed the path to say, "C:\TEMP" during the installation, you would need to change this line to read: C:\TEMP without an ending '\'. Whatever you used as the destination needs to be entered instead. Save the file and then exit, and then run the sim again. **************************** This occurs after the installation of 1.0.446 due to failing to first remove the original version. The program is attempting to access the old data from the CD, which is no longer compatible with the program after installing the update. Un-install the program using Control Panel, and then manually delete the folder that was left behind which is typically: Program Files\ATC Simulator(tm) by AEROSOFT(USA) Then, reinstall the update. Another possibility is that the file 'SCRRUN.DLL' is an older version and needs to be updated. A newer version can be downloaded from http://www.atcsimulator.com/support/scrrun.dll. Save this file into your Windows\System folder. ******************************** This error occurs when the progam attempts to use certain fonts. If you have this error since downloading the 1.0.462 patch, you need to download it again. The first patch (1.0.462) was referencing a font that caused this error. Download the current version to correct your copy. Another possibility is that the file 'SCRRUN.DLL' is an older version and needs to be updated. A newer version can be downloaded from the site listed above. Also, check to see that the following font files exist on your system in the fonts folder; smalle.fon, smallf.fon, fmcs.fon, led.fon If any file is missing, you can download the following zip file containing the fonts and add them to the fonts folder; http://www.atcsimulator.com/support/fonts.zip *********************************** This is an indication that the installation of ATCsimulator® is incomplete. ***************************** This error occurs after installing the 1.0.462 update. Do this, but be very careful. Use START > RUN > "Regedit" > [Enter] Expand and locate the following key: My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\ATCSimulator Click on 'ATCSimulator' and delete it. Then exit REGEDIT and run the sim again first, then run INSTALL or STRIPMATE ***************************************************** This error occurs after installing the 1.0.462 update or the installer program. This is an indication that either you terminated the program without installing any sector data, or you did not complete the installation due to a system crash. Then exit REGEDIT and run the sim again first, then run INSTALL or STRIPMATE ******************** To eliminate this error, locate and delete the file "ATCS.INI" and then run ATCsimulator® again. ********************************************************** The positions of on-screen radarscope elements are maintained in the file "ATCS.INI". By deleting this file, it will be recreated by ATCsimulator® using default positional values. Review the manual for ways of relocating and/or displaying particular elements. In version 1.5, this file is maintained under each separate sector folder. For instance, this file for DFW will be located under: C:\Program Files\ATC Simulator\Sectors\DFW\ATCS.INI ************* This error only occurs on Windows 95 systems. ATCsimulator® requires Windows 98 at a minimum. *************************** This is an indication that there is more than one TTS voice installed on your computer and the Microsoft TTS voice is the default. There are a variety of things you can do. First, try using START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > Add/Remove Programs Remove any TTS engine except the "Lernout and Hauspie TruVoice American English TTS Engine" You can also attempt the following. But, be very careful. START > RUN > "Regedit" > [Enter] Expand and locate the following key: My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Voice\TextToSpeech\Engine Click on 'Engine'. Look to right at the TTS engines installed. There should be no other TTS voice installed except, "TruVoiceAmEnglish". If there is, then you must either uninstall the software which created this key, or you can delete the key here by clicking on the item, and then the DEL key. ******************************************* If you hear something like, Backslash CTX=Normal Backslash at the end of each transmission, that is an indication that a program called, Text-Assist is installed on your computer and is adding the extra text. You can remove this program using; START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS *********************************** If you find that the mouse cursor disappears when over the radarscope, but a hand appears outside the radarscope, that is a problem with your video driver. Contact your video card manufacturer for an update. **************** This is an indication that there is more than one TTS voice installed on your computer and it has altered the settings of the output. There are a variety of things you can do. First, try using START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > Add/Remove Programs Remove any TTS engine except the "Lernout and Hauspie TruVoice American English TTS Engine" Or, you can download and install the Speech Control Panel. http://www.atcsimulator.com/support/speechcontrolpanel.exe ************************************************************* This results from the Speech SDK mapping the MSTTS.DLL engine to Windows\Speech instead of ATCSimulator\Speech. START > PROGRAMS > AEROSOFT > SOUND COMPATIBILITY TESTER to correct the problem. Version 2.0 | Version 1.5 | Version 1.1 | Version 1.0 |
