Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Version 2.0 (Prior to Windows VISTA)

******************
ERROR 53
******************

There have been reports of this error immediately following installation of Version 2.0. It appears that the installation is not copying all of the needed folders from the CD to the hard drive. You can overcome this error by manually copying the folders. Copy the following folders from teh CD to the ATCsimulator2 folder, making them sub-folders:

\GRAPHICS
\SECTORS (this folder will contain an additional 122 sub-folders)
\SOUNDS
\SPEECH

You can also create an additional folder named "RECORDINGS" under ATCsimulator2 as well.

After the folders have been copied, you will need to disable the READ-ONLY property associated with these folders and files. Use Windows Explorer to locate the ATCsimulator2 folder. Highlight the folder name, and then RIGHT-CLICK > Properties and UNCHECK the READ-ONLY attribute. This should be applied to all folders/files associated with ATCsimulator2.

*******************
ERROR 75 (this does not apply to Windows VISTA)
*******************

This error will occur if any file in the ATCsimulator folder or any subfolder is set to READ-ONLY. Use Windows explorer and locate the ATCsimulator folder. right-click and select "Properties" and uncheck the READ ONLY checkbox. Tell the system to "apply to all files and folders".

To do this from a Command Prompt and changing to the ATCsimulator folder, use the following command:

ATTRIB -r

If you receive a message telling you

"system files are out of date..."

Microsoft has identified this problem and has offered a variety of solutions, but in assisting a customer (Windows XP Home Edition) we discovered the easiest way to get around this problem is to:

1. If you have the hard drive space, copy the entire CD contents to a temporary folder on the hard drive, call it something like "ATCsimulator Setup Folder", creating all of the folders and files from the CD.
2. Reboot Windows
3. Press F8 during the reboot process of Windows
4. Select SAFE MODE
5. Run the "SETUP.EXE" program from the temporary folder where you placed the contents of the CD
6. After successful installation of the SETUP, exit and reboot your computer to NORMAL, and leave the CD in the drive.
7. Run ATC Simulator for the first time and it should complete the installation as explained in the manual.
