May 5, 2011 - KNOWN ISSUES WITH WINDOWS 7/VISTA and the solution

There are 2 errors that can occur below:

"vtext.dll or one of it's components are not correctly registered.." etc.

This error is caused by Windows 7/VISTA interference with the install program.

To correct, perform the following using Windows Explorer.

Step 1. Navigate to the "C:\ATCSIMULATOR2" folder.

if you find the file "ATCS2DATA.EXE", run it by double-clicking on it.
It will extract needed files for the program.
Step 2.
When it is complete, rename it to "ATCS2DATA.EX_"

Step 3. Run these files, in this order by double-clicking on their names:

TV_ENUA.EXE
SPCHAPI.EXE
Then
SOUNDCHK.EXE

You can now run the program normally using the typical menu system,

START > Programs > aerostudios > ATCsimulator2

ERROR 76 - Path Not Found

This is a result of either NOT removing a version correctly following our instructions, or also an indication of a failure of the install program due to Windows 7/VISTA interference.

To resolve this issue, double-click this filename in the C:\ATCSIMULATOR2 root folder:

ATCS2CLEAN.EXE

This will remove the registy entry that is confusing the program.

You can now run the program normally using the typical menu system,

START > Programs > aerostudios > ATCsimulator2

Finally - DO NOT REMOVE and REINSTALL the program if you have not received your unlock code. The copy protection system will interpret that to mean you are tampering with the software, attempting to circumvent the trial period, and it will disable the trial period immediately. Removing the program and reinstalling will not resolve installation issues. So, just contact aerostudios at atcsimulator@cox.net when an issue arises that these instructions do not resolve for you.

September 17, 2010 - ATC3/Tokyo Big Wing freeware traffic generator is now available.

Hello everyone. I checked out the traffic generator from the atc3 fansite. Here
is the link to the traffic generator:

http://www.merryheart.org/support/fpg2.zip

Save it to your computer and extract it to a folder of your choice.
Now, download the Python 2.7 Windows installer from this link:

http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.7/python-2.7.msi

Run this download to install the Python package. Once you have them both installed,
locate this file in the folder where you extracted fpg2.zip:

flightplangenerator_v2.py

and double-click to run it. Use the button at the top right showing 3 dots to locate your ATC folder.
It is typically;

c:\Lichterfelde\atc3en

You will then be presented with choices for creating your own random scenario.

*** DISCLAIMER -- USE AT YOUR OWN RISK ***
I DO NOT WARRANTY THAT THIS WILL WORK FOR YOU. BUT IT DOES APPEAR TO FUNCTION
FOR ME. I HAVE RAN A FEW RANDOM SCENARIOS AND IT IS GREAT FROM WHAT I CAN TELL.

August 5, 2010 OCX ISSUES

There have been reports of 2 of the standard OCX files used by ATCsimulator2, giving users problems:

TABCTL32.OCX
RICHTX32.OCX

These files are Microsoft components, and were not developed by aerostudios. They are claimed to be supported files by Microsoft, but have to be distributed with the application. If you received "error 339, component not correctly registered"..etc, here is what you can do:

Open a Command Prompt window and type the following:

CD\Windows\System32
regsvr32 /u <filename above>
regsvr32 <same filename>

example:

CD\Windows\System32 {Enter}
regsvr32 /u TABCTL32.OCX {Enter}
regsvr32 TABCTL32.OCX {Enter}

This should correctly register the component. If this fails, I suggest you contact Microsoft about the issue with your O/S. We cannot control whether or not Microsoft's claims are valid. With VISTA and 7 being so unstable today, we have no clue what is causing the conflicts.

January 14, 2009 - USB Headsets

For those of you wishing to utilize speech recogntion, USB headsets are not recommended. A standard analog headset that uses the MIC input of your sound card produces superior response to that of USB headsets. Plus, known issues with USB headsets will be avoided when a standard analog headset is utilized. This information is most applicable when using the shareware program ATA (Air Traffic Assistant) designed for use with ATCsimulator2.

December 4, 2009 - UPGRADE(S)

If you purchased ATCsimulator®2 between January 1, 2006 and prior to December 3, 2007, you can upgrade to the current version for $20 USD. Purchases prior to January 1, 2006 are not eligible for upgrade at a discounted price.

July 16, 2009 - Build #3.4.1 Available for download

Widescreen support for the ARTS-IIIa mode is now available. Download this update by clicking here. This is a zip file. Extract the contents into your root ATCsimulator2 folder, using the folder names stored in the zip. This is typically, "C:\Program Files\ATCsimulator2". This update will provide the following widescreen modes for ARTS-IIIa:

1280x800
1440x900
1680x1050

This only works with normal (96 dpi) or large (120 dpi) font modes. Non-standard font settings do not apply and could result in erroneous looking displays. You will need to set your screen display settings manually since ATCsimulator2 will not alter your display settings. WARNING!, DO NOT attempt to use this with any version prior to 3.3.0.16, or you will suffer a complete failure of your original program. We will not reissue downloads to correct your mistake.

NOTE: This update will not require you to re-register, nor will your unlock code change. This update is only valid on installations that have been previously provided with unlock codes.

ATCsimulator2 Build 3.3.0.16 (Dec. 3, 2007) or later is required. If you have an earlier version purchased between January 1, 2006 and December 3, 2007, you can upgrade for $20 USD. This upgrade will provide you with 3.3.0.16 Professional. You can then apply the widescreen update to this version. Your Paypal transaction ID and email account will be needed to validate your previous order and to send an invoice for the upgrade.

December 4, 2007 - FILE DOWNLOAD/UPGRADE POLICY

Downloads of updates or complete purchased versions are for a period not to exceed 90 days. Customers are expected to make backups of their downloads. We do not maintain these downloads indefinitely. Upgrades are provided free for a 1 year period from date of purchase. Upgrades after the first year are fee-based. Proof of purchase is required.

MICROSOFT WINDOWS VISTA Tips

As you will find with ANY application written for Windows XP, the following actions MUST be performed to ensure your XP programs will run under Windows VISTA. Hopefully this bug in VISTA will be corrected in the upcoming release of Windows 7.

To run ATCsimulator2 on a VISTA machine, you MUST do the following;

Before, during and after installation, locate all EXEs(application file type) in the ATCsimulator2 root folder and all of those located on the CD;

set the compatibility to "Windows XP/SP2"
check "Disable Themes"
check "Run As Administrator".

Or you can also elect to disable UAC (User Account Control) to circumvent VISTA installation interference.

If you cannot find an answer to your problem at the forum, please email us at atcsimulator@cox.net with an explanation of the problem, and at least the Windows operating system you are running.

But please, no questions for support of Speech Recognition, only problems related to the ATCsimulator®2 program itself.

Thank you for your support and suggestions. Enjoy!
